After graduating from Virginia Tech with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Tom spent his early career in technical product management, business development, and managing lines of business. While this provided an excellent opportunity to use his problem-solving skills and strategic focus it lacked personal impact. This led him to make a career change to financial services and to become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™* to help individuals lead better financial lives.

An advantage to becoming a CFP®* later in his career is that Tom and his wife have sat in the client seat of other advisors. This provided a unique perspective that helps him empathize with client needs, challenges and goals. It also led Tom to focus on helping people find financial balance. This “Enjoy today, plan for tomorrow” mindset requires a holistic approach and expertise in financial life planning. Tom’s ability to communicate complex planning topics simply and clearly fosters open discussion and encourages client questions. As a life long learner Tom is always looking for new and innovative ways to positively impact client’s lives. He recently attained The Certified Student Loan Professional™** designation to help accurately advise clients about student loan repayment options and strategies within the scope of their financial goals.

As a 15 year resident of Louisville, Tom is a happily married father of two great teenagers. He enjoys spending time in the outdoors and trying to keep up with his wife at Crossfit. When he has time to relax you can find him on the patio with a bourbon, cigar and a good book.

In the program, advisors learn how to advise clients with student loans within the scope of their overall financial goals, present and future life scenarios.
